Public Training Courses: January - April 2021

Opening Doors London delivers affordable training for the health and social care sector.

Our public training courses are based on the latest policy, research and legislation, helping your team to stay abreast of current equality issues, meet best practice and improve the quality of care and support to your older LGBTQ+ clients and service users. To read more about ODL training, click here.

Please note that for the time being "face-to-face" public training has been suspended, due to Covid-19. Our training will be delivered by webinar and announced on a quarterly basis.

Webinar: social isolation and the impact of Covid-19 on older LGBTQ+

Social isolation hits the older generations of LGBTQ+ people particularly hard because they are much less likely to have support from children or extended family, as many heterosexual people do. This one-hour webinar explores the impact of social isolation on the mental health of older LGBTQ+ people in the context of increased social distancing, and demonstrates an approach to written and telephone communication skills that can help engage this vulnerable community in the critical months ahead.

Webinar: A history of discrimination - older LGBTQ+ and health & social care

Research shows that older LGBTQ+ people do not access health and social care as early or as regularly as their heterosexual peers, yet they often have more need of services and support. Coinciding with LGBTQ+ History Month 2021, this one-hour webinar, led by older LGBTQ+ health, housing and social care professionals, explains the decades of discrimination that lie behind many older LGBTQ+ people’s attitudes to health and social care, and how health and social care professionals can best influence for change.

Webinar: Differences in older LGBTQ+ health, housing & social care needs

Health and social care professionals profess to treat everyone equally, but in practice this often means that important differences in the lives and needs of older LGBTQ+ people can go ignored.

This one-hour webinar led by older LGBTQ+ health, housing and social care professionals makes clear that there are differences in the lives of older LGBTQ+ people that need to be understood and appreciated in order to provide effective person-centred care to this marginalised and sometimes vulnerable population.

Webinar: Meeting Care Quality Commission standards for older LGBTQ+ people

CQC inspectors are increasingly likely to ask care managers how they are meeting their legal obligation to provide individually tailored care to LGBT+ clients, under the Care Act 2014 and the Equality Act 2010. This 90-minute webinar led by older LGBTQ+ health, housing and social care professionals identifies differences in the lives of older LGBTQ+ people and offers practical ways to provide effective person-centred care to this marginalised and sometimes vulnerable population.
